South Scituate resident and veteran of the American Civil War Lemuel Freeman talks about his life as a person of color during a time when slavery was abolished in Massachusetts, but still legal in the United States as a whole. With a number of other men from South Scituate, he enlisted not once, but twice in the war, fighting and ultimately dying for freedom for enslaved people across America.
